Dirigibles? by eriksonfifth Dirigibles? by eriksonfifth
This looked better with the sketch intact.

Steampunk is hard to categorize as sci-fi or fantasy. D:

I am uploading a lot of messy things lately because frankly, they're better, in my case.

This is old.

More thoughts of ~Neverfly.

I think I am probably just uploading shit to shove Second Best off my front page. Maybe I am overly unproud of it.

It may be old, but I love it. :D

I haven't actually played steampunk, but it sounds like something I would adore.
(But I do rp a lot of 'son of ether' characters in Mage. ^^)

I do really love this though. The ribbons on the hips are a nice touch. There is always something so elegant about victorian dresses. Then they're even more awesome with goggles and wrenches. :D

You should check out Kenneth Oppel's books Airborn and Skybreaker. Them are all about dirigibles. Or zeppelins maybe. Definitely airships.

xD No wonder she looks so indignant.

One of my favourite things about the steampunk genre is actually the tendency of females to be put into really strong roles in the art--you're always seeing female technicians and repairmen and pilots. And somehow despite this strong prevalence of females in the art it never seems forced, or like some kind of feminist statement. It's always beautifully natural--and so rarely is it cheesecakey, like females in Cyberpunk tend to be. There's a lot less cramming of women into unrealistic scraps of cloth and a lot more women wearing long sleeves and full skirts and big gloves and helmets, looking strong and beautiful without being overtly sexualized.

Yet another reason to adore steampunk.

Yes. That mentality of "there's a lot of work to be done, so why would we employ only half the population?" And yeah, Cyberpunk which is definitely a bit more "She um... has huge-ass breasts because... we can fit more microprocessors in them?"

Oh lord. The bad jokes. ("Dude, they're releasing a new iPod in d-cup!") There as so many.

I'm all for a bit of contrived cheesecake, long as it's honest. If you're gonna make the rollicking adventures of Chestgirl and Packageman, fine! Just don't try to pass it off as anything more than the blatant porn it is (nor whine at folks for not "getting" it). That's like KFC pretending to be duck a l'orange. Steampunk definitely seems to avoid that, which is great.
